Basket and Pouf Done!

I have finished my foot stool pouf. It took very little time. After much deliberation I settled on making it 20x20x13, I didn't have quite enough fabric to make it 20x20x20 .I love it . I still think it could use a bit of foam so that it could serve as a stool, not just a foot rest. I really made it to got with these awesome chairs, I got for a steal over a year ago.   I think the dog likes it too. She is still too big to even think about curling up on this one.

I also completed this crochet basket that I remade about 6 times in order to get the dimensions I was looking for. I love how this came out with the handle and all. Not quite sure where it will go, but I do think it is a nice size.

A Little Funky

Vintage chairs were a score. They swivel too. I think they fit our over all look. There are two, of course I had two perfect Kaffe handmade by me pillows to bring out more of the 60's vibe. They are velvety feeling but, polyester. I remember this color from my parents house when I was a kid, I think it is a great neutral with tan and should make a comeback. I am in love with mid century modern furniture. I find that it tends to be super expensive stuff, even more so here on the West Coast. I know these really aren't mid century modern but they seem to fit in with my pieces of furniture. I was stoked to get these two chairs for $50. Kuma likes them too, she gave them a major sniffing before allowing them to stay. I was super sad to get rid of the chair that we had in NC. It was super big and nice to curl up into. It had come from my grandmother's house and went to a friend who enjoys it. Besides, these are a little funky, rather awesome and there are two! Which makes me feel slightly more grown up.

Nana's Quilt

Here is my 92 year old grandmother, I call her Nana. Nana is a piece of work. Her body is failing her but, she is very sharp. She remembers so much and lead a super interesting life. She started getting super fixated on things lately. He has always been feisty, but her fixation is the newest thing the family has noticed with her age.
She wanted these fabric curtains panels made into a light weight bed covering. She ripped out the old seams herself a year ago and started trying to pin it together. When I got to her house it was all laid out on the bed.
She had apparently asked everyone about who to take it to. They all told her that I might be able to help her. So right before I left NC I made this quilt for her.
It was quickly made and super basic. I simply pieced together two curtain panels and added a solid back and thin cotton batting . The cornice board is still up on the window in her bedroom from when she picked out the sweet birds in the 70's.
The heavy drapes panels had been taken down along long time ago.
She had a heavy comforter on the bed and couldn't move it around with her weak wrists. She didn't want batting but I convinced her otherwise.
I tried to tell her that the black acidic ink in the birds beaks were eating through the fabric. She did not care, she wanted the blanket. I did however spend quite a bit of time trying to patch some holes.
I think that it lightens the room and I have since heard her say so many nice things about it. I am concerned about it being washed and worsening small holes. I just hope that it lasts and my aunts don't wonder why it's so hastily done.

This is my Grandfather holding my Dad, Nana and Aunt Elayne
I would say 1952. I recently learned that women purposely would pose like this in the '50. I think it is awesome and I would look this amazing too.

Vintage quilt

I have had too much going on recently. I don't know where to begin.  We are still moving to Oregon, we didn't get to visit when we had planned in June. I went to Texas where my husband grew up for his grandfather's funeral. It is cattle land desert. The decor is not for me . I flipped for this quilt his grandmother pulled out for our bed. I loved the use of color and polyester. So that's all I can muster. I apologize.

Sparkly

I had two great aunts that never had children. When they passed, all of their fun stuff came to my sister and I. I have held on a lot of their stuff for awhile. I enjoyed getting them out and thinking of the things I could make from them. Ive had this huge box of jewelry for 7 years, unfortunately, it hasn't made its way into a project yet. I am moving across the country and I need to pack everything up, or get rid of it. Its hard to think about getting rid of some stuff. I have had one yard sale and we sold mostly old jewelry that was from the 40's and 50's.  These earrings were sold. I miss them, its hard and ridiculous that I miss them. I wish I wasn't materialistic. I love my junk, especially the stuff my great aunts sparkles.

Little Bit

I have been completely in love with this gorgeous song for a long time. I get it in my head and the only cure I have found is to watch this equally amazing video. Lykke Li is beautiful. I enjoy watching her dance it is so organic and free. Oh, I could go on for days about this beauty, but just listen to the song and you'll see. I rarely talk about music on my craft blog but, it helps me clear my brain so I can think about crafty stuff. Christmas here I come. Must listen to "Little Bit" , one more time!

Flea Market

I have been on a hunt for chairs. We are having a party and we have no chairs. I am trying to keep it cheap and non-plastic, I have been to four consignment shops, and scooped out a few yards sales. I also went to Shelton's in downtown Raleigh on W. Morgan. I loved that spot. The older man that works there is not the nicest of man, but they do have a heck of a lot of awesome finds. I bought a sweet mid- century side table. Still is not a chair but, I love it and had to have it! Ill show you later.  I also went to the Flea Market as it was closing up.

I have mentioned this before, but I would like to reiterate how much I personally enjoy the NC State Fair Grounds. I live 10 mins. from this awesomeness! I took my sister on the way back from Chapel Hill. My sister actually took these shots with my camera, Thanks Lil! The top shot is  looking into this giant cart that is filled with small cast iron figures, hooks, and plaques. This cart is always there. I look in it every time I go, one day I will buy something from the menagerie.
Lil and I love these crystal door knobs. Our great aunt had amazing cut glass/ crystal door knobs in her home that our family built in the 1910's. It was an amazing place to grow up visiting, these reminded us both of that house.

Someday, I will own a dress form, this one was old and difficult to size. Also, Uncle Sam didn't give me that much tax money back. I  finally found a cheap chair that I bought from this dude who wears a black velvet top hat. He is very animated and conversational. Always makes me smile. I have learned to look for certain faces. Some booths are filled with junk, but most are awesome.
